Our Reception children have been enjoying exploring the trim trail, practising their climbing, balancing and swinging skills! These activities help develop their gross motor skills, coordination, core strength and spatial awareness. As they navigate the different obstacles, the children are also building confidence, resilience and independence, learning to take appropriate risks and challenge themselves in a safe environment. It's wonderful to see them becoming stronger, more confident and increasingly adventurous!
In Reception, play is at the heart of our learning! Through exploring, investigating and using their imaginations, the children develop important skills across all areas of the curriculum. Whether they are building, creating, role-playing or working together, they are strengthening their communication and language, problem-solving, creativity and social skills. Play also encourages independence, curiosity and confidence as children make discoveries and learn from one another. Every playful experience is an opportunity to learn, grow and have fun!
Reception enjoyed a wonderful visit to Brook Green Park, where the children explored the seasonal changes taking place in autumn. They observed the changing colours of the leaves, noticed how the trees and plants were beginning to change and collected natural materials such as leaves, twigs and conkers. The children discussed the signs of autumn, changes in the weather and what happens to plants and animals as the seasons change. This hands-on experience encouraged children to use their senses, make observations and develop their understanding of the natural world and changing seasons.
This week, the children had a wonderful time learning the Addison school song! Mr McGarrigle played the song on the keyboard while the children listened carefully, joined in and learnt the lyrics. They particularly enjoyed singing, “I may never fly like Superman, climb like Spiderman, bend like Bananaman, Indiana Jones is not the kind of guy I am, ’cause I’m in the Addison School, yes sir!” The children also explored how music can express different emotions by listening to and identifying happy and sad notes. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop their listening skills, musical awareness and sense of belonging to our Addison school community!
