Welcome Back to Summer 1

Welcome back to Summer 1! We hope you had a lovely break and are feeling ready for a new term of learning. We are excited for the weeks ahead, filled with fun lessons, new challenges and chances to show your best work. This half term, Year 4 pupils will continue to build their skills across all subjects, with a special focus on learning about the Vikings and exploring what life was like during this time.

Let’s keep trying our best, supporting each other and making this a brilliant term!

MTC Intervention

For the MTC check, pupils have been working extremely hard on their times table practice, including attending after-school interventions. Their dedication has really paid off, with many children achieving full marks (25/25) in their MTC tests. We are very proud of their effort, commitment and positive attitude towards their learning.

Science- Experiment with String and Spoon

In science, pupils carried out an experiment using a string and a spoon. They attached the spoon to the string and gently tapped it against the table while holding the string close to their ears. Pupils observed how the sound travelled through the string and noticed how it changed when heard this way. They enjoyed exploring how vibrations create sound and showed great curiosity throughout the activity.

Science- Experiment with Musical Instruments

In Music, pupils explored the drum and the ukulele, listening carefully to the different sounds each instrument can make. They compared the pitches, identifying whether the sounds were high or low, and discussed how the instruments are played.

RE Day- Devotion

Our concept for RE Day was devotion. The children really enjoyed exploring what devotion means and how it can be shown in different ways. They were able to relate the idea to their own lives, sharing how they show devotion through kindness, care, and effort both in and out of school. The children also took part in a role-play activity, showing how they can demonstrate devotion to their friends through helpful and caring actions.

Science Experiments

Children explored how air is all around us and takes up space. Using a transparent cup and water, they discovered that when the cup is upright, air inside keeps the water out. But when it’s tilted, the air escapes and the water goes in!

Dove workshop

Children took part in a Dove workshop focused on understanding our bodies. The session helped them recognise that everyone’s body is unique, and that’s what makes us special. The children showed great confidence when talking about what makes them different, proudly sharing their own skills and strengths!

Katie Piper Kindness Challenge

We were delighted to welcome Katie Piper to Addison as part of the Kindness Challenge! The children really enjoyed taking part and were inspired by Katie’s message about the power of kindness, confidence, and positivity. It was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to reflect on how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in our school and community.

Cricket

Topaz really enjoy taking part in cricket sessions, developing their skills in batting, bowling, and fielding. Playing cricket helps children to build teamwork, coordination, and focus, while also encouraging confidence and a love of sport. It was fantastic to see them participating with great enthusiasm!

Boudica- Drama Vocabulary Activity

As part of our new history topic on Boudica and the Romans, pupils used drama to explore key vocabulary. Working in teams, they performed short acts for classmates to guess. The activity was engaging, collaborative, and helped bring our learning to life.

Kindness

This week, Topaz class completed a Kindness Word Search to remind us of our Classroom Charter. It was a fun way to reflect on words like helping, sharing, caring, respect, and friendship, and to think about how we show kindness every day. It’s been a wonderful week of showing kindness, especially towards our new joiners and new staff .
