Hands-On Maths Learning in Year 2!

In Maths this week, Year 2 have been busy using Dienes blocks to support their addition and subtraction skills. The children practised adding and subtracting two-digit numbers, both across and not across a ten. Using the tens and ones helped them to visualise the numbers, understand place value and explain their thinking clearly. It was fantastic to see their confidence grow as they explored different strategies and enjoyed working practically with the resources!

Year 2 Hit It Off with Cricket!

Our Year 2 children enjoyed an exciting cricket session in the playground this week! With guidance from our specialist coach, they practised batting, bowling and fielding through fun, active games. The children showed great focus and determination as they learned new skills and developed their coordination. It was amazing to see everyone enjoying the sunshine, staying active and having such fun playing cricket together!

Creative Posters for Safer Surfing!

To finish off our Computing Day, Year 2 created beautiful posters all about how to stay safe online. The children applied what they had learned during the morning’s NSPCC ‘Stay Safe’ workshop, thinking carefully about how to use technology responsibly and kindly. Their posters shared important messages about online safety, showing their understanding and creativity. It was lovely to see their thoughtful ideas displayed proudly at the end of a meaningful day of learning!

Game, Set, Match for Year 2!

Our Year 2 children had a fantastic time during their tennis lesson this week! They headed to the tennis courts for their regular session with our specialist coaches, who helped them develop their coordination, balance and ball skills through fun and engaging activities. The children showed great enthusiasm and teamwork as they practised rallying, serving and moving around the court. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow while staying active and enjoying the sport together!

Little Scientists on a Nature Hunt!

Our Year 2 children had a wonderful time taking their science learning outdoors! As part of their topic on habitats, they ventured into the school playground to explore what lives in trees and woodland areas. They observed carefully and drew all the living things they could see around them. The children were full of curiosity and excitement, just like real scientists, discovering how many different creatures make their homes in nature.

Year 2 Meet Katie Piper – A Lesson in Kindness!

As part of her visit with the NSPCC, Katie Piper joined Year 2 in their classroom. The children were busy writing about kindness and loved sharing their thoughtful ideas with her. Katie spoke with them about the importance of kindness in everyday life, making it a very special and inspiring experience for all.

Year 2 Spark Their Story Skills!

This week, Year 2 have been reading Vlad and the Great Fire of London. The children explored the story by learning how to sequence a narrative, carefully placing the pictures into the beginning, middle and end. This helped them to think about how events unfold and to retell the story in order.
