Year 5 and Year 6 Working Together

Year 6 pupils recently spent time with Year 5, sharing their experiences and offering advice about some of the exciting events they can look forward to next year. Through informal discussions, the Year 6 children talked about their upcoming PGL residential trip and shared what to expect from the Year 5 sleepover. They answered questions, reassured younger pupils and spoke about the importance of teamwork, resilience and independence. It was a valuable opportunity for Year 5 to learn from their older peers, helping them feel more confident and excited about the experiences that lie ahead in Year 6.

Year 5 Become Wellbeing Warriors with Coram Life Education

Year 5 took part in an engaging and interactive Wellbeing Warriors workshop delivered by Coram Life Education. During the session, pupils explored ways to look after their mental health and wellbeing, learnt strategies for building resilience, and discussed the importance of positive relationships and self-care. Through a range of activities and discussions, the children developed valuable skills to help them manage challenges, express their feelings, and support others. The workshop was both enjoyable and informative, empowering our pupils to become confident Wellbeing Warriors.

In English, we used a thesaurus to find different synonyms to describe the Montague's and Capulet's.

The children were also lucky enough to have a talk from an author and they asked insightful questions.

Miss Eason has been so impressed with Pearl Class's new joiners. These students are learning to work with numbers up to 50 and 100. They are using place value blocks to explore how tens and ones make up a number.

Newspaper Articles - English

This week, Year 5 students have been delving into the world of print journalism! They examined real newspapers to identify key features such as headlines, captions, and columns. The students enjoyed comparing different articles, discussing how journalists capture readers’ attention, and discovering how information is organised to inform and engage audiences. It was a great hands-on way to connect their learning about Newspaper reports to real-world examples.

Students worked collaboratively in groups to match different features of newspaper articles with their purposes. They discussed headlines, captions, direct and reported speech, and more — developing their understanding of how each element helps to inform, engage, and interest the reader. It was a great opportunity to practice teamwork and strengthen their knowledge of non-fiction writing!
