EAL students

Miss Eason has been so impressed with Pearl Class's new joiners. These students are learning to work with numbers up to 50 and 100. They are using place value blocks to explore how tens and ones make up a number.

Newspaper Articles - English

This week, Year 5 students have been delving into the world of print journalism! They examined real newspapers to identify key features such as headlines, captions, and columns. The students enjoyed comparing different articles, discussing how journalists capture readers’ attention, and discovering how information is organised to inform and engage audiences. It was a great hands-on way to connect their learning about Newspaper reports to real-world examples.

English lesson

Students worked collaboratively in groups to match different features of newspaper articles with their purposes. They discussed headlines, captions, direct and reported speech, and more — developing their understanding of how each element helps to inform, engage, and interest the reader. It was a great opportunity to practice teamwork and strengthen their knowledge of non-fiction writing!

Dodgeball Tournament

Five students from Pearl Class participated in an exciting Dodgeball Tournament, showing fantastic teamwork, energy, and sportsmanship throughout every match. They dodged, ducked, and dived their way through tough competition, representing our school with pride and enthusiasm. Well done to all five for their brilliant effort and team spirit!

Tower of London Trip

Year 5 had a fantastic day exploring the Tower of London! The class enjoyed learning about its fascinating history, from the famous ravens to the glittering Crown Jewels. They were captivated by stories of kings, queens, and prisoners from centuries past! It was a fun and educational day that brought history to life.

Science - Measuring friction between moving surfaces

Every Friday, Year 5 have cricket sessions with an external coach. This week, students were practicing their bowling skills.

On Tuesday, Year 5 took part in the NSPCC Kindness workshop. The session encouraged pupils to think about how their words and actions affect others, and how even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference in school and in the wider community. Throughout the week we have been discussing this theme and how we can create our own kind communities within the class, school and in our homes.

Year 5 have made a brilliant start to the school year! In mathematics, we are learning about Place Value. Students have been identifying numbers to 100,000 using place value charts, part-part whole models and bar models! Here are some photos from one of our mathematics lessons this week.
