New Toys and Colourful Learning in Reception
Reception have been enjoying their new toys and learning resources, especially our new role-play costumes, dolls’ house, play kitchen and our exciting new train set. We have also been exploring the book, ‘The Color Monster’, where pupils have been learning about different emotions and the colours that represent them. The children have loved discussing how the monster feels and linking these emotions to their own experiences while engaging in lots of imaginative play with their new toys.
Our Wonderful Visit to Brook Green and Hammersmith Fire Station
Our children had a wonderful day exploring Brook Green. They wrapped up warm for the autumn weather and enjoyed noticing the seasonal changes around them. The children observed the colourful leaves on the ground, the bare branches on some trees and the cooler air that shows winter is on the way. They were excited to spot how nature changes at this time of year.
After our time in the park we walked to Hammersmith Fire Station where the firefighters gave us a very warm welcome. The children were delighted to climb onto the fire engine and explore the equipment. They even had the chance to hold the hose and put out a fake fire which was a highlight for many.
Remembrance Day
Reception created beautiful poppies for Remembrance Day using egg cartons, lolly sticks, and paint. Pupils enjoyed the Art activity while learning about what poppies symbolise and remembering the fallen soldiers.
Our little boxers!
Reception had a very exciting experience visiting the ‘secret room’ right at the top of Addison. We climbed, climbed some more, climbed some more, climbed some more until there were no more steps left to take. Once inside, the children had the opportunity to put on gloves and try out the punch bags. This opportunity was linked to their PE learning, where pupils had been developing their warm-up skills by practising controlled boxing movements.
Handwriting!
Our Reception children are practising their Set 1 sounds in a whole-class handwriting session, remembering to use their tripod grip.
Katie Piper NSPCC Visit
It was an exciting day in Reception as Katie Piper came to visit and read her new book to the children. She spoke with them about the importance of kindness and how they can show it in everyday life. The pupils were thrilled to share their “colouring for kindness” activities with her. It was a truly memorable experience that the children will not forget.
Settling In!
The children in Reception have had a fantastic start to the school year! They have been incredibly brave, showing great confidence as they settled into their new environment and adapted to new routines with ease. One of the highlights of their day is exploring the Trim Trail, which they absolutely love; it's been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and energy shine through!
