Year 6 Take on the Role of Lawyers and Jurors

For nearly four weeks, Year 6 immersed themselves in an exciting series of ‘Lawyers for Learners’ workshops, where they explored real-life case scenarios and discovered what it truly means to work within the legal system. Pupils took on the roles of defence lawyers, prosecutors, witnesses and members of a jury, experiencing firsthand how evidence is analysed and how fair decisions are reached. Each workshop challenged them to think critically, ask thoughtful questions and consider multiple viewpoints.

The sessions not only strengthened their understanding of justice, rights and responsibilities, but also helped them build confidence in public speaking, teamwork and problem-solving. By the end of the programme, pupils had gained a meaningful insight into how the law impacts everyday life—while enjoying the thrill of stepping into the shoes of real legal professionals.

Rule of Law – Year 6 Debate

In Year 6 PSHE, pupils explored the Rule of Law through a lively class debate on the question: “Should pupils be allowed to appoint their headteacher?” The children discussed the importance of fairness, responsibility and democratic processes, considering how rules help protect everyone and ensure decisions are made in the best interests of the school community. Throughout the debate, pupils listened respectfully to different viewpoints and used evidence to support their ideas, developing a deeper understanding of how laws and leadership work together to keep society running smoothly.

IntoUniversity Graduation Day at Northeastern University London

Graduation day at IntoUniversity was a truly special occasion, full of pride and celebration. Pupils had an amazing time at Northeastern University in London, where they presented their projects and shared their learning journeys with parents. Each pupil had the opportunity to stand confidently in front of an audience and showcase the skills and knowledge they had gained throughout the programme.

The atmosphere was filled with excitement, encouragement and  joy as families and staff applauded the students’ hard work and creativity. Exploring the university campus also gave pupils a glimpse into what future education might look like, sparking dreams and ambitions for the years ahead. It was a memorable day that celebrated not just what the pupils had achieved, but also how much they had grown in confidence, teamwork and aspiration.

On the fourth day at IntoUniversity, the pupils explored their dreams and ambitions for the future in greater depth. They spent time thinking carefully about what they would like to study when they go to university and how those studies could help them achieve their goals. Some pupils shared dreams of becoming doctors, engineers, teachers, scientists, artists, or even business leaders. They wrote about the subjects that interested them most—such as medicine, law, art, or computer science—and explained why those fields inspired them. Each student wrote their ambitions on cards, adding drawings and motivational words to make them unique. Afterwards, they proudly shared their cards with the rest of the class, speaking about their hopes and listening to one another’s ideas. It was an inspiring and thoughtful session that encouraged everyone to dream big, work hard, and believe that with effort and determination, they can achieve their goals.

On our third day at IntoUniversity, pupils had a productive and inspiring schedule. In their first activity, everyone took part in a range of tasks — writing, drawing, cutting and gluing — showing fantastic teamwork at its best. In the morning, they worked diligently to complete their presentations on their chosen artists, showcasing creativity, research skills and confidence as they shared their work. The afternoon brought an exciting drama workshop, where students explored expression, teamwork and performance through engaging activities. The day was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy learning in a fun and supportive environment.

Year 6 took part in an exciting animation workshop at WAC Arts. First, the pupils created their characters using play dough, carefully shaping them and adding lots of detail to make them unique. They also spent time drawing background scenes and extra characters to include in their stories, using their imaginations to design colourful and creative settings. After that, they learned how to bring their models to life using stop-motion animation. They worked in small groups, moving their characters a tiny bit at a time and taking photos to make it look like the figures were really moving on screen. Once the animation was complete, the pupils explored how to add sound effects and voices to match their characters’ actions, which made their films even more fun and realistic. Everyone was fully engaged, enjoyed being creative and used new skills. The pupils loved the whole experience and were very proud of the animations they produced. On their second day at IntoUniversity, they continued building their skills, taking part in even more fun activities that encouraged teamwork, creativity, and confidence.

First Day at IntoUniversity

On our first day at IntoUniversity, the children took part in exciting activities all about performing arts. First, they compared different theatres from different periods in history, including Ancient Greek theatres, Roman theatres and the Globe Theatre. They also looked at modern theatres and tried to find differences and similarities between old and recent ones. After that, they worked in groups to explore the theme of performing arts further. Each group chose an artist and researched their life, achievements and contributions to the performing arts world. The children showed great teamwork, curiosity, and enthusiasm throughout the day

NSPCC Workshop: Promoting Child Safety

This week, Year 6 participated in an NSPCC workshop focused on ensuring children's safety and understanding their rights. The session enabled pupils to learn what constitutes abuse, how to recognise it and most importantly, how to speak out and stay safe. Through interactive discussions and activities, the children were encouraged to reflect on trusted adults they can approach and to understand how organisations like the NSPCC are there to provide support. The workshop was engaging, age-appropriate and instilled confidence in the pupils to seek help whenever necessary.

Year 6's Engaging Debate on Winston Churchill

This week in History, Year 6 participated in a thoughtful and lively debate about whether Winston Churchill played the most significant role in Britain’s victory in World War II. The children explored various viewpoints, with some arguing that Churchill’s leadership and inspiring speeches were pivotal in maintaining national morale. Others suggested that victory depended equally on the bravery of soldiers, the support of the Allies and advancements in technology. The debate fostered critical thinking and enabled pupils to appreciate that historical events are influenced by a multitude of individuals and factors.

In PSHE, pupils shared their dreams and ambitions for the future. They spoke about the careers and life goals they hope to achieve and discussed the steps they need to take to reach them, such as working hard, developing new skills and staying motivated. This activity helped pupils to reflect on their futures while building confidence and a sense of purpose.

Dove Workshop: Confidence and Kindness

As part of their wellbeing activities, the Year 6 pupils took part in a Dove workshop focused on self-esteem and body confidence. During the session, they explored the importance of valuing their individuality, challenging negative stereotypes and recognising the unique qualities that make each person special. Through thoughtful discussions and interactive activities, the pupils were encouraged to think positively about themselves, support one another and feel proud of who they are. It was a meaningful and empowering experience that helped to build confidence, kindness and self-acceptance.

Understanding World War II with Amber Class

Amber Class delivered a thoughtful and informative assembly all about World War II. Pupils confidently shared facts about key events, important leaders and the impact the war had on everyday life. They spoke about evacuees, rationing and the bravery shown by ordinary people during difficult times. With clear speaking, role play and well-prepared visuals, Amber Class helped the audience gain a deeper understanding of this significant period in history.

Learning Through Drama: Blitz Vocabulary

In English, Year 6 explored a range of new vocabulary linked to the Blitz as part of their World War II topic. They discussed the meanings of the words in depth, thinking about how they would have been used at the time and what emotions or images they might create. To help embed the new vocabulary, pupils worked in groups to act out each word using expression, movement and teamwork. The rest of the class watched closely and tried to guess which word was being performed. This activity not only helped them remember the vocabulary more effectively but also encouraged creativity, collaboration and confidence when speaking in front of others.

Exploring and Classifying Plants

Year 6 scientists stepped into the role of botanists this week, exploring and classifying a wide variety of plants. The children worked carefully to observe key features such as leaf shape, stem texture, flower structure and root systems. They compared similarities and differences between species, using scientific vocabulary and careful reasoning to group plants into categories, just like real scientists in the field. Pupils recorded their findings, discussed their ideas with partners and reflected on how classification helps us understand the natural world. The activity sparked curiosity, encouraged teamwork and gave them a deeper appreciation of plant life and biodiversity.

Choosing Kindness with the NSPCC

Year 6 recently took part in an NSPCC workshop with the theme Choose Kindness. During the session, pupils explored how their words and actions can have a powerful impact on others. They discussed real-life scenarios, shared ideas about how to show kindness in everyday situations and reflected on how it feels to both give and receive kindness. Through thoughtful activities and guided discussions, the workshop helped pupils understand that even the smallest positive actions—like a smile, a helping hand or a kind word—can make a big difference in the classroom, at home and within the wider community. Pupils left the session inspired to be more considerate, supportive and mindful of others.

Year 6 Cricket Skills in Action

Year 6 enjoyed their first cricket lesson this week, learning the basics of batting, bowling and fielding while working together as a team. Pupils practised holding the bat correctly, aiming their bowls with control and positioning themselves in the field to support their teammates. They showed great enthusiasm, encouraged one another and quickly improved their skills as the session went on. It was a fun and active start to their cricket lessons, with many pupils excited to keep developing their techniques in the weeks ahead.

Exploring the Causes of War

In their first week back, Year 6 pupils began their learning about World War I and World War II, exploring the causes of both wars and the key events that shaped them. They discussed how tensions between countries escalated, looked at significant dates and leaders involved and started to understand how these global conflicts affected people’s lives. Pupils also shared what they already knew, asked thoughtful questions and showed great curiosity as they began this new historical topic.
