Speech & Language

Pupils identified as needing Speech and Language (Sp&L) support are placed in either a group intervention or receive targeted one-to-one sessions led by the therapist alongside trained support staff.  The educational psychologist works directly with the school to assess the needs of individual pupils, offering detailed recommendations to inform next steps.  These include strategies for creating tailored curriculums and, where appropriate, support with applying for EHCPs.

Speech & Language Therapists

Our schools buys-in additional Speech and Language Therapy from Central
London Community Healthcare to work with children in the school who have Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) but do not have an EHCP.

Our school therapists work in a number of ways in the school.  They meet with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator every term to discuss how they might help support the speaking and listening skills of pupils. Support levels differ each term.

Speech and Language Therapy can help with the following areas of development:

  • Attention and listening skills
  • Understanding of words, instructions and questions
  • Using new words, making longer sentences and using grammar correctly
  • Social skills such as conversation skills, making friends, understanding social situations and problem solving
  • Production of speech sounds
  • Understanding and talking about feelings
