School Day

8.45am Gates Open & Registration

The school day starts at 8.45am when our gates open. Children enter the school when they arrive on site.  We trust our children to be responsible and walk into class on their own.

Morning registration is from 8.50am to 9.00am.  All children are expected to be in class by 9.00am.  Good punctuality is an important habit for life – it's just one of the ways that we prepare our children for success in the future.

Morning Playtimes

Morning break-times are staggered to give children space to play with children of a similar age-group:

  • Nursery & Reception children have flexible break times
  • Years 1 & 2 – children have a morning break from 10.30am to 10.45am
  • Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 – children have their break from 11.00am to 11.15am

Lunch

We stagger our lunch service and lunch time play so that children have more space to play:

  • Nursery, 11.30am followed by play inside the Nursery and outside in the Nursery Garden
  • Reception, 12.00 noon followed by play in Reception classrooms and their own play-space.
  •  Years 1 & 2  – 12.15pm to 1.15pm with play in the main playground areas.
  • Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 – 12.30pm to 1.30pm with play in the main playground areas.

School Ends

The timings for the end of the school day are staggered to help parents collect children from different phases.

For safety, each class teacher will shake every child's hand to say goodbye only once they know that children have been collected safely by a known adult.

If the 'known adult' collecting your child from school is going to change, please telephone us in advance.  Children will not be allowed to leave with another adult without permission from the parent or carer.

3.20pm pick up

  • Nursery children are collected from Nursery exit doors, through the Nursery Garden, by a known adult at 3.20pm.
  • Reception children are collected from Reception classroom doors, through the Reception play-space, by a known adult at
  • All other children are collected from the main playground:
    • Year 1, from exit doors by a known adult
    • Years 2 & 3, from the playground by a known  adult.
    • Years 3, 4, 5 & 6,  from the playground by a known adult.
    • Year 5 & 6 children may walk home alone if parents have given permission in advance.
    • Collection times for children with an after school activity or club will vary

Parents are encouraged to meet children and teachers after school for brief, informal chats.  This helps to build up a close relationship between home and school – we want teachers to have good links with all parents.

Getting to School

Walking is the best option to get to and from school.  There are many benefits: it's healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations.  Alternatively, we have bike/scooter-racks and also encourage children to cycle or scooter to school.

If you do need to travel by car, please park wisely avoiding double parking and stopping on the yellow zig-zag lines.
