Curriculum Overview
Curriculum overview
At Addison Primary School, we provide a knowledge rich and creative curriculum for our pupils. Our curriculum aims to develop pupils into confident and courageous individuals throughout their Addison journey. It is designed to provide pupils with opportunities and experiences that allow them to learn beyond the classroom. To promote a love for learning, we recognise and celebrate pupils’ achievements, progress and contributions. Skills and knowledge are taught side by side to inspire all our children to reach their full potential. Our cross-curricular curriculum makes links between all our core and non-core subjects to deepen pupil’s understanding.
Implementation
When teaching our curriculum, we consider children’s prior knowledge and the knowledge they need to acquire. Once all National Curriculum requirements are covered, we build on them by selecting topics that relate to our pupils’ backgrounds and prior experiences. As a team, we understand how crucial our children’s working memory is. Therefore, we use a range of resources such as laptops, mathematical manipulatives and a wide range of English texts to contribute to our children retaining information, which in turn supports their progression.
Our Values
Our children arrive to school eager to learn and immerse themselves into their learning. The Addison values are a part of our children’s journey from Nursery to Year 6. The school values teach our children vital qualities that prepare them for beyond the school environment and shape them into respectful, responsible and friendly individuals. As a school, we take pride in our pupil voice and encourage children at Addison to share their thoughts and opinions as well as encourage them to communicate in a healthy and meaningful way.
