World Book Day

Pupils performed their song, Midnight Gang, using the backing track of Believer by Imagine Dragons. Dressed in their pyjamas, they came together to bring The Midnight Gang to life, using balloons to re-enact scenes from David Walliams' book.
The local fire brigade (LFB) visited Year 5 for a workshop to teach the children about fire safety. During the session, the firefighter explained the importance of having working smoke alarms and practising a fire escape plan at home. They demonstrated how to 'Stop, Drop, and Roll' if clothing catches fire and discussed the dangers of playing with matches or lighters. The children had the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the protective gear and equipment used by firefighters.
In Spring 1, we learned the British value of 'Mutual Respect.' The children engaged in a debate titled, "This house believes that promoting stereotypes is ok." The class was divided, with half arguing for and half against the motion. Those in favor suggested that some stereotypes can be positive, while the opposing side highlighted how stereotypes often lead to more harm than good. This activity helped students understand the importance of respecting diverse perspectives and the impact of stereotypes on mutual respect.
