Welcome to Cherries Class!

Getting children off to the right start. That’s the aim of our Nursery!

Quality child care promoting nurturing relationships and high-quality education to meet the needs of the individual are at the heart of all Cherries strives to achieve. The Nursery team works collaboratively with the school to enable clear progression from our children’s starting points through to their school entry. This is one of trust values that we always adhere to in order to achieve the best outcomes for our children!

In Cherries, our children learn through play, where we aim to deliver rich, varied and fun learning through questioning and exploration. We provide a range of activities that help children make progress in each of the areas of learning and development. There is a good balance between our children deciding how they will use the activity, following our in the moment philosophy, and adults taking the lead in encouraging the children and enriching their learning.

Read Write Inc. Phonics & Reading Scheme

RWI at Addison

At Addison, we aim for all our children to become fluentconfident readers who are passionate about reading.

We use the Read Write Inc (RWI) programme to get children off to a flying start with their literacy.

What is Read Write Inc?

Read Write Inc (RWI) is a phonics complete literacy programme which helps all children learn to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling.
The programme is designed for children aged 4-7. However, at Addison, we begin the programme in Nursery and will continue teaching RWI to children beyond the age of 7, as we use a stage not age approach.

Using RWI, the children learn to read effortlessly so that they can put all their energy into comprehending what they read. It also allows them to spell effortlessly so that they can put all their energy into composing what they write.

At this stage, it is easier for our children if we refer to the sound and not the letter names.
